Learning Styles and Career Information

Learning Styles
Learning styles are the different way people learn.  Each of us has a natural preference for the way in which we prefer to receive, process and impart information. This is largely genetically determined but is also susceptible to development, particularly when we are young.  There are various ways in which preferred processing modes become apparent and some simple ways in which we can enhance the effectiveness of our communication once we are aware of them.

If you would like to find out what your learning style is please visit this learning styles inventory (click the red link) sponsored by Brainbox and answer the questions as honestly as possible.  If you need assistance please see Mrs. Amy McKay in Counseling for assistance.
Career Information
Deciding on a career or major for college can be very confusion and scary.  There are a few interest tests that can help you see what skills that you perform well at and will help you in these decisions.

. The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) is a multiple choice test, administered by the United States Military Entrance Processing Command, used to determine qualification for enlistment in the United States Armed Forces.  Even if you are not going into the military we offer all juniors and seniors the opportunity to take this test (free) as well as assist them in interpreting it so that they can see the skills that they have and the career opportunities that go along with these skills.  For more information and Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) (ASVABThe first one is the testing dates see Mrs. Amy McKay in Counselling.

Another good sight to view careers based on interests is the O*Net Interest Profiler (Click the red link) that is sponsored by the US Government.  This site allows students to enter their interests and see what careers match their interests.

There are many more Career Inventories out there. If you would like more information please see Mrs. Amy McKay in Counselling Center for more information.
